We carefully select our staff from colleges and educational facilities. Our staff is enthusiastic, well-trained, mature and intelligent. They are excellent role models for children, chosen for their ability to create a warm, caring and diverse community for kids. The administration of MSA is composed of full-time employees who are dedicated to the commitment to the development of youth.
Cheryl teaches third grade at Glen Acres Elementary School in the West Chester Area School District. She has a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Penn State University and she is currently working towards her master's degree in Elementary Education at West Chester University. Cheryl has worked at various summer and sports camps before coming to Marple. This is her fifth summer at Marple Sports Arena Summer Camp and her second summer as the camp director. Cheryl has also helped coach various girls' soccer teams.
Courtney is returning to Marple for her fourth summer. She will be returning to Millersville University in the fall to finish up her degree, student teaching, with a dual major in Early Childhood and Special Education. At Millersville, Courtney is involved in Study Buddies, where she tutors children in Lancaster County. She has also worked at Marple's Spring Break and Winter Break camps for the past 3 years. Courtney is looking forward to seeing new faces at Marple and another fun and exciting summer at Marple Sports Camp!
Michelle has her bachelor’s degree in Psychology as well as her Special Education Certificate from Lycoming College. She is currently working towards her Master’s degree in Higher Education Counseling/Student Affairs at West Chester University. Michelle has experience coaching girl’s lacrosse and was previously a lifeguard where she taught swim lessons and interacted daily with children of all ages. Michelle has really enjoyed the past three summers at Marple and can’t wait for the 4th summer to begin!
Jen will be a senior at West Chester University this fall. She is a dual major in elementary education and special ed. She will also be graduating with a reading minor. During her schooling, Jen has been able to observe and assist in many elementary classrooms, as well as special needs classrooms. She has worked part time in a West Chester Area pre-school, and will be entering her third year of camp with us. Jen has also been playing hockey since a young age at the arena and still enjoys playing.
Jessie has a Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education from Penn State and is working towards her Master's at Cabrini. She currently works in a Philadelphia middle school teaching 7th grade English. She has spent 3 summers as a camp counselor and is excited to join the Marple team this summer!
Mike graduated from the Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2001. He worked as a counselor/teacher at the Glen Mills School for Boys. After Glen Mills, Mike began teaching History at Community Education Partners (CEP). Upon leaving CEP, he began working part time for the Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation. His love for hockey is well known. Last summer was his second year at Marple Sports Arena and he loved sharing his teaching and hockey experiences with the summer camp boys and girls. Mike also runs our afterschool program.
Jenna is going to be a junior at Neumann University this fall. She is a Communications & Media arts major. Jenna is coming back for her third year of camp. She is really looking forward to a great summer at MSA Camp!
Melissa McQuade teaches fifth grade at St. Francis DeSales School in West Philadelphia. She coaches girls' basketball at Marple Newtown High School and also coaches a seventh grade travel team. Melissa graduated from Kutztown University in May of 2011 where she played basketball and received a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. Melissa is beginning her second summer at Marple and is excited for what is in store!
Tyler will be a sophomore at Immaculata University in the fall. This is Tyler’s second summer as a camp counselor at Marple Sports Arena! Tyler has played soccer since he was 5 years old, is very athletic and enjoys interacting with children. He has been involved in various soccer clubs and has volunteered his time coaching younger players. Tyler is excited for this summer at MSA!
AJ will be a junior at Neumann University in the fall. AJ has been working for Marple Sports Arena for six years and this will be his fifth summer with MSA camp. He also plays hockey for Marple. AJ brings a lot of fun energy to camp and we can’t wait to see what he brings this summer.
Matty will be a senior at the University of Pittsburgh in the fall. He is currently workings towards becoming an elementary school teacher. Matty has worked at MSA for six years and has played hockey there since we was six years old. He is great with children and loves to interact and play games with the campers.
Caitlin has a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education with certifications in English, Communications, and Library Media Sciences. She is currently the teacher librarian at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School where she sponsors the Reading Olympics Team, Academic Competition Team, Student Book Club, Ski/Snowboard Club, and is the head coach of the 9thGrade Softball team. Caitlin has worked at the YMCA’s Camp YUMKA for the past three years and she is excited for her first year at Marple Sports Camp!
Eric graduated from Gwynedd-Mercy College in May 2012 with a triple certification in Early Childhood, Elementary Education and Special Education. Last summer, he worked for Easter Seals’ ESY Summer Camp Program. He created weekly themed activities for children with physical disabilities. Currently, Eric is a day-to-day substitute teacher in the North Penn School District. In his free time, Eric enjoys playing hockey, soccer, and tennis.
